Every self-discovery journey is different, and Ellen Reed has recently taken it upon herself to reconnect with that inner spark and what sort of artist she wants to be.Finding her voice as a singer, songwriter and performer, she is ready to open her heart and detail the vulnerability behind the insecurities that she’s turned into her strengths.Wanting to spread the message of equality, respect and self-empowerment, the Independent Brisbane artist has reclaimed her power through songwriting and has created the foundations for this new chapter in her journey.Introducing herself to a worldwide audience in 2016 through her time on The Voice Australia, Reed became one of the Grand Finalists and won the hearts of so many viewers through her powerhouse performances.Stepping away from the show, she has truly honed her place in the Queensland live music scene with coveted performances at Big Gay Day, Lord Mayors Christmas Carols, Teneriffe Festival, Fluffy, Bridge To Brisbane Fun Run as well as a full range of corporate gigs.On a National level she has also performed at Yes!Fest in Canberra, Melbourne Cup, and performed her debut headline show at Mantra Studio in Melbourne.Embodying pure energy, confidence, powerhouse vocals and a whole lot of fierceness, her live performances are built around a commanding and theatrical stage presence. From solo performances to a full live production with dancers and a band, she knows how to authentically connect with an audience and provide an uplifting experience that feels like a pure celebration of the ups and downs of life.Her debut single ‘Never Surrender’ was released in May 2017 and immediately became a fan favourite because of it’s soulful and hyper-emotional delivery. With that fitting sentiment, the song became the Queensland Firebirds team anthem for the 2017 and 2018 Netball season’s.Stepping into a bold and more playful experimentation, ‘Selfish’ then showed listeners an upbeat and fun side to her artistry while recent single ‘You Have Been Warned’ showed a dramatic, anthemic and experimental edge.After learning a lot about herself as an artist from these foundational releases, Ellen Reed will be reintroducing herself to listeners in 2020 with a whole lot of sass, confidence and candid vulnerability.“I think I’m finally learning to be okay with who I am which has made me more confident in my musical abilities and songwriting skills. It’s stopped me second guessing every single creative decision and has made me own who I am more in the music I make” Reed explains.Learning to embrace her insecurities, ‘Lycra’ was a song born from finally learning to accept the person she was and love herself wholeheartedly.“I’m always writing and singing about past heartbreaks and defending myself to the industry, whereas Lycra is about feeling so beautiful and comfortable in your own skin. It’s vulnerable in a whole different way for me because it’s about embracing that confidence and wanting to be yourself no matter what, which is something I haven't always been able to do”.Expected for a mid 2020 release, the song will be then followed by a re-release of ‘Favourite Mistake’ which was a song she originally released in 2017. But for this release she has reworked the song into a new light after performing it for a few years and finding a new raw emotion that she hadn’t tapped into yet vocally.“It’s a song dedicated to anyone that has a person that was their favourite mistake, and let’s be honest, we all have one” she laughs.Stepping into this new confident and self-aware light, Ellen Reed has truly defined who she is as an artist. Finding the confidence and self-love she needed to help reshape her strength, she is ready to open her heart in 2020 and begin this next chapter.
